I took formal lessons in my teens as a beginner, but soon developed my ear and my technical skills by tirelessly learning all the guitar parts from my music collection. This included everything from Rush, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Beatles, Stones, The Who, Van Halen, Kiss, Priest, Scorpions, to Blondie, Pat Benatar, Charlie Daniels, etc., as well as all manner of classic rock and early thrash.
The whole time I did this, I was always practicing blues improvisation, fingerstyle, tapping techniques, pinch harmonics, alternative harmonics, etc.
I played for several years without a good vibrato technique until I saw a local guitarist who made a huge impression on me which drove me to develop my own.
Being that the guitar is an imperfect instrument intonation-wise, I am well versed in the art of compensation for pitch discrepancies brought on by different criteria. For example: pushing lightly on the back of the neck of the guitar will compensate for a sharp pitch deviation caused by striking a powerful note or chord.
There are many tips, tricks and secrets not normally pointed out by guitar instructors. Some of these techniques, though simple, take time to perfect, but becoming aware of them is the first step.
To me, it doesn't matter how proficient you are in music theory or how big your "scale library" is, the FIRST thing is to be confident and in control of what you know NOW. Being able to express a limited fretboard "vocabulary" with
emotion carries much more weight than being able to rattle off sweeping arpeggios with a dreary velocity.
I have knowledge about guitars, amps, Floyd Rose, Ebow, Roland Guitar Synth as well as effects, DAW recording, forming bands and performing live.
I love to share my insights and my love for the guitar and want to help you be the master of that beast you hold in your hands.
