Hey everyone, I'm Branden and I play in a band called Misery Signals and recently started another band called The Company We Keep. I was lucky enough to grow up in a musical family so I've been exposed to it since day one. I started taking paino lessons at the age of 7, with Yamaha mast clinician Vicki Jenks, and two years later started taking drum lessons. Shortly after I began taking lessons, I discovered an interest in heavy music and started to focus on a more "agressive" style of playing. Throughout my public school career, I played in the highest level ensembles and was a key player in the highschool percussion ensemble. After highschool I was then selected to travel to Europe to perform with kids all over Wisconsin in the "Wisconsin Ambassadors Of Music". Shortly after that I started Misery Signals, a progressive metal/hardcore band, and started touring full time across the world. Shortly after Misery Signals began I decided to expand my horizons and improve myself as a player. I then studied with Jamie Ryan, a percussionist PhD who teaches at Eastern Illinios University, Dave Skogan a drum corps instructor here in Wisconsin and, Chicago Jazz drummer, Jeff Stitely.
In Misery SIgnals my mindset is that the drums are also a "melodic" instrument, meaning that when the drums are individually heard, the listener knows exactly what song is being played. Therefore, the possibilites are ENDLESS!!!! Time signatures, polyrhythms, modulation, perspective, dynamic, drum fills etc etc!! the list goes on!! On top of all of those things, technique. overall exectution.
Lessons will focus on technique (moeller!) hand and foot, drum set up and the importance of building a solid base, and breaking old habits. I will be attentive to each students learning needs, breaking down each concept to the most fundamental elements, therefore "personalizing" the lesson. Once I feel the student is ready, we will move on to new material. I would like to set up a weekly schedule with each idividual student as well. Also included in lessons will be, chops/various fill patterns and orchestrations, rudimental techniques, coordination and independence exercises, and writing.
Students of all skill levels are welcome!
I look forward to meeting you all so contact me here if you're interested!!
